The ribs can absolutely be air-fried.
Preheat your air fryer to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Cook for about 20 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the beef reaches 195°F, with the ribs bone side down in the air fryer basket.
You don’t need expensive ingredients for this recipe. The most basic ingredients are salt & pepper. Apart from that, we need the following ingredients:
- 3 oz of beef back ribs
- 2 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tbsp of historic BBQ Seasoning
- 2 tbsp of Williamson Barbecue sauce
- Missouri City Rub or Texas rib rub
- 1 to 2 tbsp brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, black pepper, paprika, and cumin.
Directions to Cook
Beef ribs are simple to air fry—rub them with spices and put them in the air fryer!
- Preparation of the beef rub:
In a small bowl, combine the measured amount of garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, black pepper, paprika, cumin, and brown sugar. Then, add the 3 tbsps of olive oil. Use a spatula to mix it thoroughly.
- Preparing the beef for seasoning:
Peel off the sliver membrane present at the back of the ribs. Use a boning knife to peel from the rib’s edge to the back. With a paper towel, pull off the membrane from the ribs. It’ll come off easily once you pull it back.
- In the air fryer:
Place your ribs in an air fryer in a single layer with the meat side up. It will be juicier and tender. Air fry for 10 minutes at 400° F (205° C). Flip the ribs halfway through the cooking time.
Lower the temperature to 320 degrees Fahrenheit and cook for 10 minutes. Serve with your preferred BBQ sauce! Enjoy!
- Use a meat thermometer to check if they’re fully cooked or not. It should read between 190°F to 203°F.
- Double the marinated ingredients and follow the recipe instructions to make 4 to 6 pounds of beef short ribs. Alter the recipe by cooking in batches.
- Do not overfill the air fryer basket by stacking them. Doing so will cook them unevenly.

It’s better to reheat the air-fried ribs in the oven.
To do this, put the leftover ribs in a pan and firmly wrap them in aluminum foil. Bake the meat at 250 degrees for about 30 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 130 to 140 degrees.
Should I wrap the ribs in foil before air-frying?
Wrap the ribs in foil before air frying because:
- It makes the cleanup process easier.
- It prevents the ribs’ sides from burning as the meat shrinks and becomes softer.
- It reduces cooking time and increases moisture content.
However, you should tightly wrap them in unwaxed butcher paper or tinfoil at the 170 internal temperature mark.
The ribs will take longer to cook if you don’t wrap them in foil. You might need to smoke them for an additional hour. The foil makes the ribs absorb more smoke flavor and become tender and juicy.
You can use butcher paper or foil to wrap your meat in place of tinfoil. Both have benefits while cooking brisket, pork belly, or spare ribs.
