Pizookie is a word that combines pizza and cookies. It’s ideal for days when you want a pizza-sized cookie! Traditionally, Pizookies are baked or cooked in a cast-iron skillet, but this air fryer recipe drastically reduces the cooking time!
Pizookies are golden brown giant cookies in the shape of a pizza filled with gooey goodness. The center will be a little gooey, while the edges will be crispy, so it’s best eaten right out of the pan while still warm.
A Pizookie is a simple dessert that can be made with whatever chocolate bars, chocolate chips, nuts, or candies you have lying around the house.
What exactly is a Pizookie?
Pizookie is a golden brown large cookie in the shape of a pizza that is loaded with gooey sweetness.
BJ’s Restaurants was the first to introduce it. They are often prepared in a cast iron skillet or deep dish pizza pans. Pizookies aren’t your typical chocolate chip cookie. It’s stuffed with your favorite cookie mix-ins and topped with ice cream and chocolate sauce.
Why should we use Use air fryer to prepare Pizookie?
The air frying process achieves the characteristic color and flavor of deep fat frying while reducing the amount of oil content and polar compounds. A greater emphasis is placed on the detailed evaluation of food components and properties in addition to their effects on human health.
Air fryers simply have a more appealing name than a “countertop convection oven” that browns food with hot air.” Instead of immersing food in hot oil, air fryers use a fan to circulate hot air around the food in a basket.
Air fryer gives food a “fried” appearance — crispy on the outside and moist on the inside — in less time and with less fat.
Ingredients
Besides an air fryer and pan, to make Pizookie Dough, you will need these basic cookie ingredients:
- 1/2 cup (8 tbsp) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar, lightly packed
- 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 1 and 1/2 cups white all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1 and 1/4 cups milk, dark, or semi-sweet chocolate chips (we like milk best)
Directions to make Air fryer Pizookie
- Prepare the cookie dough. Mix together butter and both sugars for 5 minutes. The mixture should be fluffy and light for perfection in the dough.
- Add 1 egg and vanilla extract into the mixture. Mix until they are all combined.
- Separately, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt, then add to the butter/sugar mixture and mix on low until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips until well combined.
- Place two sheets of aluminum foil on the bottom and 2-3 inches up the sides of the air fryer to act as a mold. This is your frying pan! Remove from the air fryer and preheat for 8-10 minutes at 350 F.
- Place the Pizookie dough in a baking pan lined with Aluminum foil or lightly sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. Press the cookie dough into the pan gently, no more than a half-inch thick. Divide the dough in half, reduce the cooking time by 3-5 minutes, and make two Pizookies if you prefer a less gooey cookie.
- Once the air fryer is hot, place the cookie dough pan inside and cook for 8-10 minutes. Begin checking at 6 minutes, then every minute thereafter. The top will be golden brown, and the center will be gooey but not completely raw. Take a small spoonful out of the center to ensure it’s cooked thoroughly before removing it.
- Top warm cookies with scoops of vanilla ice cream or drizzle with hot fudge or chocolate syrup for an extra delicious dessert.

Why is preparing Pizookie in an air fryer a better idea than the traditional method?
Air Fryer Pizookie can be ready in a fraction of the time that an oven-baked Pizookie takes. There are no special pans required just Aluminum foil. The crisp crust of this Pizookie contrasts with the ultra-gooey interior and pools of melty chocolate.
You can make any cookie you want for your Pizookie. However, our buttery-smooth air fryer classic chocolate chip cookie recipe yields perfect chocolate chip cookie dough, which we used to make this Homemade Pizookie Recipe.
Is using aluminum foil or parchment paper a better option to prepare Pizookie in an air fryer?
Instead of having to find a special pan to fit into the air fryer insert, we tested this recipe with foil and it worked perfectly!
Stack 2 sheets of aluminum foil on top of each other and shape them to fit the base of your air fryer insert, aiming for 2-3 inches tall. Grease the cookie-filled foil “pan” generously with cooking spray, then place it in the heated air fryer when ready to bake the Pizookie. Be careful to avoid burning yourself.
You will also need a small round pan, such as the one included in the accessories kit. You can also use a disposable aluminum pie plate, a Spring form pan, or a small 6-8″ cast iron skillet.
What to serve with Air fryer Pizookie?
Feel free to use whatever mix-ins you want! Change the chocolate chips or add fun toppings like caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, crushed Oreos, sprinkles, and so on.
However, the serving is not only limited to a few fun toppings, you can also top it with scoops of your favorite ice cream flavor or cookie dough.
How can you store the leftover Pizookie?
Although this is best served as fresh. You can store leftovers in the fridge for up to 2 days and reheat them in an air fryer for a few minutes until warmed through.
You can also keep them wrapped in plastic wrap or aluminum foil in an airtight container. There is no need to keep it in the refrigerator. Place your Pizookie slices in a zippered bag or Stasher Bag and store them at room temperature or in the fridge until ready to use.
What toppings complement Pizookie?
I like to use a cookie flavor combo, then top it with ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce or heaps of chocolate sauce.
This recipe for a buttery soft air fryer Pizookie is a large chocolate chip cookie with a crispy edge and gooey center. This rich dessert will be a hit with everyone.
Conclusion
- Remember that you could easily do the same thing with refrigerated cookie dough. The only difference is that yours may end up thicker because you aren’t using these measurements, so keep an eye on the cooking time.
- The key to the perfect cookie is to not overbake it. Take it out when the outside is browned although the inside still appears underdone. Because it will remain in the pan for about 5 minutes, it will continue to cook and harden.
- Pizookie can be topped with whatever mix-ins you want!
- Air fryers cook slightly differently from model to model, as well as depending on the size of your specific air fryer insert. Check the cookie from time to time to ensure it is not burning. Air fryers cook much faster than ovens, so you can go from perfect to burnt in less than a minute.
